Regain your confidence with the gold standard in pigmentation correction. At Daisy Dermal Clinic, we specialize in the Cosmelan® system—a world-leading medical protocol designed to target and eliminate unwanted pigmentation that traditional lasers and peels cannot reach.
How It Works:
Unlike surface treatments, Cosmelan works at a cellular level. It is a dual-action program:
1. We apply the intensive Cosmelan 1 mask, which triggers a deep physical peeling process to remove existing surface pigment.
2. You continue with a strict 3-month homecare regimen using the Cosmelan 2 tyrosinase inhibitor. This “shuts down” the source of pigment production, ensuring long-term remission.
The Clinical Benefits:
• MELASMA CORRECTION: Effectively treats hormonal pigmentation (Melasma) on the cheeks, forehead, and upper lip.
• POST-ACNE MARKS: Erases brown and dark spots left behind by previous breakouts (PIH).
• SUN DAMAGE REPAIR: Visibly clears solar lentigines and UV-induced uneven skin tone.
• ETHNIC SKIN SAFETY: The safest and most effective choice for darker skin tones (Fitzpatrick 3-6) where lasers are often contraindicated.
At Daisy Dermal Clinic, your safety and long-term results are our priority. The Cosmelan program triggers an intensive biological resurfacing process. Understanding the recovery timeline is key to managing your journey toward clear, flawless skin.
DURING & IMMEDIATELY AFTER:
The application of the mask in-clinic is a comfortable and painless experience. Once you rinse the mask at home (after the prescribed 8-12 hours), the skin’s intense renewal phase begins. It is normal to experience significant Erythema (redness) and warmth as the active ingredients start to work on the deeper pigment layers.
Common Temporary Responses:
• Your skin will feel very warm and appear like a strong sunburn for the first 48 to 72 hours.
• Mild to moderate swelling is expected as your skin initiates a powerful inflammatory repair response.
• Between days 2 and 5, you will experience active peeling and flaking. This is the new skin emerging. Do not pick or pull at the skin during this phase.
To enhance your results and support safe clinical healing after your Cosmelan treatment, we recommend the following strict protocols:
• UNCOMPROMISED SUN PROTECTION: This is the most critical step. Your skin is “naked” and highly sensitive to UV. You must apply the provided Melan 130+ Pigment Control every 2 hours when outdoors and every morning, regardless of the weather.
• STRICT PRODUCT COMPLIANCE: For the first 7 days, you must ONLY use the provided Mesoestetic recovery products (Melan Recovery and Hydra-Vital Factor K).
• NO EXTERNAL HEAT: Skip the gym, saunas, and hot showers for at least 72 hours. Heat can worsen inflammation and lead to rebound pigmentation.
• PATIENCE WITH PEELING: Do not pick, pull, or scratch the flaking skin.
• ACTIVES DETOX: Do not use any Retinol, Acids (AHA/BHA), or Vitamin C from other brands until you have finished your full 3-month Cosmelan journey.
To protect your skin during the initial shedding phase, the provided Hydra-Vital Factor K and Melan Recovery are your primary barrier support systems. Please follow the instructions provided by Dermal therapist Daisy exactly.
Cosmelan is a dual-action medical protocol. In the clinic, we apply the Cosmelan 1 Mask, which contains a high concentration of active ingredients to remove existing surface pigmentation. Once you return home and remove the mask, the second phase begins. You will use the Cosmelan 2 maintenance cream, which acts as a "tyrosinase inhibitor." This effectively shuts down the pigment-producing cells to prevent the melasma from returning.
Side effects with Cosmelan treatments are rare but easily managed. Some skins may feel a little red following removal of the in-clinic mask. This may be accompanied by some minor dryness and flaking. Any tightness may be easily relieved by applying a nurturing moisturiser such as Hydra-Vital Factor K.
It is recommended to avoid direct sun exposure following a Cosmelan treatment and to wear a broad spectrum SPF30 every day before, during and following treatment.
Most patients require only one main session to achieve a dramatic 80-95% reduction in pigmentation. Cosmelan is designed as a standalone, high-performance treatment rather than a series of light peels. However, strict adherence to the 3-month homecare kit is essential to maintain your porcelain-smooth results.
Yes Cosmelan is for the face/neck area only. We recommend IPL skin treatments, skin needling or hydrafacial for other areas of the body. Depending on your specific skin concern.
Yes, the unique active ingredients used in the Cosmelan depigmenting mask and cream enable effective treatment and results on all skin colours and ethnicities. The skin preparation process conducted by your Skin Specialist prior to the mask’s application will customise the treatment further based on oily, combination or dry conditions. 2 weeks prior to any Cosmelan treatment, you will need to start preparing your skin.
Expect an "ugly week" of active shedding. Your skin will be red and will peel significantly for approximately 5 to 7 days. Most clients take a few days off work or plan their session for a Thursday so the heaviest peeling happens over the weekend. By day 10, your skin will look remarkably bright and refreshed.
While Cosmelan can be performed year-round, we highly recommend avoiding direct sun exposure during the first 3 months of the program. If you live an active outdoor lifestyle in the Sunshine Coast, we suggest planning your treatment for the cooler months or committing to wearing a wide-brimmed hat and reapplying your Melan 130+ Pigment Control sunscreen every 2 hours.
The application of the mask in the clinic is completely painless. However, as your skin begins the intensive renewal process (usually between days 2 and 5), you may experience heat, redness, and a tight sensation. This is normal and shows the treatment is working. We include 2 complimentary LED light therapy sessions to calm your skin and accelerate the healing process during this phase.
The Cosmelan journey requires dedication to achieve its world-leading results. Following these clinical guidelines is essential for your safety and success.
BEFORE YOUR APPOINTMENT:
• CLINICAL PREP: You must use the prescribed Brightening Peel Booster (or similar pigment inhibitor) for 2 to 4 weeks prior to your session. This "calms" your pigment-producing cells and ensures a safe, uniform result.
• SUN DETOX: Strictly avoid direct sun exposure or tanning for 4 weeks before your treatment. We cannot apply the mask to sun-burnt or recently tanned skin.
• STOP ACTIVES: Discontinue the use of Retinol, Vitamin A, and any exfoliating acids (AHA/BHA) at least 5 days before your appointment.
• HEALTH CHECK: We cannot perform Cosmelan if you are currently pregnant, breastfeeding, or have been on Roaccutane in the last 6 months.
AFTER YOUR APPOINTMENT:
• THE 8-12 HOUR RULE: You will leave the clinic with the mask on. You must leave it on for exactly the number of hours prescribed by Nurse Deise, then rinse gently at home with lukewarm water.
• THE "UGLY WEEK": Expect significant peeling, redness, and heat between days 2 and 7. Use only the provided Melan Recovery and Hydra-Vital Factor K. Do not pick at the flaking skin!
• PROTECTION IS NON-NEGOTIABLE: Your skin will be "naked" and highly sensitive. You must wear SPF 50+ every day and stay out of direct sunlight. If you go outdoors, a wide-brimmed hat is mandatory.
• PHASE 2 ADHERENCE: From day 3, you will begin using Cosmelan 2 as instructed. This is the most important step to prevent the melasma from returning.
